Hello and welcome!
My name is Roya Vafaeimehr, and I’m truly excited to be part of your learning journey at Woodland Community College.
I hold a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language, and I have over a decade of experience teaching ESL/EFL learners in universities, community colleges, and international programs. I currently teach various courses at the University of California, Davis and Woodland Community College.
What makes my teaching especially meaningful is that I have also been a language learner myself. I learned English as a foreign language, just like many of you are doing now. Because of this, I understand both the challenges and the rewarding moments that come with learning a new language, and I aim to support you throughout every step of that journey.
In my classroom, English is learned through use and practice. Lessons are interactive, practical, and connected to real-life communication. We learn through discussion, collaboration, and engaging tasks, supported by digital tools that make learning both effective and enjoyable. My goal is to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and building confidence.
Alongside teaching, I am a researcher in applied linguistics, with a focus on teacher education and assessment. I am passionate about exploring ways to make learning more meaningful through reflective and innovative practices.
I am also a multilingual speaker of Persian, Turkish, Azerbaijani, and some Arabic, which has deepened my appreciation for the experience of learning languages across cultures.
Most importantly, I look forward to learning with you, hearing your stories, and supporting you as you reach your English goals. I’m excited to meet you and begin this journey together.
Welcome to class!

This count includes only views we can identify as human. Search engines and AI crawlers made up a large share of the previous figure — one crawler alone viewed every profile on this site twice in two days.
Counting under the new method began in August 2026, so this number reflects recent views rather than a running total. It will grow as the term progresses.
