Jamie Seibel is a Language Arts Instructional Associate (IA) at Woodland Community College and an adjunct English Professor at Sierra College. Jamie holds a Master’s Degree in English from Sacramento State, a certificate in Teaching College Composition, a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), a minor in Sociology, and an AA degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Jamie graduated with Summa Cum Laude, considered the highest level of academic distinction awarded by universities. She also graduated from Sierra College with two AA degrees before transferring to the university, earning honors in both degrees. In her classified role as an IA, Jamie serves as a staff member who oversees student employees (clerks, SI Leaders, and tutors) in the Student Success Center, which offers free tutoring services to students at the Woodland Campus, Lake County Campus, and Colusa County Campus. She has been working at WCC since the Spring 2023 semester.
Along with student employee supervision, Jamie’s role as an IA includes employee training, clerical/technology skills for the TracCloud appointment system, organizing events, and more. Jamie is passionate about professional development, participating in workshops and training whenever she can. She has been certified as an SI (Supplemental Instruction) Trainer/Supervisor through the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Additionally, she is currently earning her Certificate in Effective Teaching through ACUE (The Association of College and University Educators). Since Woodland Community College is an HSI (Hispanic-Serving Institution), Jamie is also taking Spanish classes to re-learn the language and communicate with students whose first language is not English. She attended the NCWCA (Northern California Writing Centers Association) 2026 conference to present on the topic “Introducing Linguistic Justice to the Writing Center, Campus Faculty, and Beyond.” Furthermore, she presented a workshop twice on “College Readiness 101” to 7th – 12th grade students for an “Adulting 101: Life Skills for Teens” event collaboration between the Woodland Public Library and the Yolo County Office of Education. She also enjoys serving on workgroups and committees. She is currently serving as the Classified Tri-Chair of the Flex/PD Committee at Woodland Community College.
As an English adjunct professor at Sierra College, Jamie has taught English C1000 Academic Reading & Writing (hybrid) and English C1001 Critical Thinking & Writing (fully online). As a professor, Jamie provides a welcoming and inclusive environment. Her class design is often filled with creative assignments and activities to engage students. Through Sierra College, she also completed a five-week-long Online Teaching Boot-Up to develop her online teaching skills. From time to time, she also teaches at Sierra College Community Education, which offers affordable courses, workshops, and specialized training, both short-term and non-credit, providing fast, accessible opportunities open to everyone. Jamie teaches one-day non-credit classes. For example, one previous class she taught was a one-day “Introduction to Eco-Poetry” class. Before teaching at Sierra College, she taught as a Teaching Associate for three semesters at Sacramento State and was also briefly a Writing Center Intern at Sacramento State as well. After graduation, and before Sierra College and Woodland Community College, Jamie taught after-school art classes to grades K-5 with the company Young Rembrandts. As an art teacher for kids, she maintained class management with twelve students or more per class, took attendance, used the company’s art curriculum for instructions and artwork improvement tips, and walked kids to after-school care for dismissal.
Jamie’s passion extends beyond the field of education; she is also actively involved in non-profit work and volunteers with several organizations to help the environment, animal welfare, and assist refugees. She volunteered for two years with Paper Airplanes, a non-profit focused on helping individuals and/or refugees affected by conflict, as an online English as a Second Language tutor. To this day, she is still in contact with the students she helped through Paper Airplanes. Jamie also used to volunteer as a content writer for Women’s Republic, an online magazine that promotes women's rights and equality, and as a clean-up crew member at Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary. As of right now, she is volunteering as a Green Volunteer for Tree Davis, where she supervises tree plantings done by general volunteers and makes sure the tree is properly planted and that everyone stays safe. She earned Volunteer of the Month for Tree Davis in December 2025. Along with Tree Davis, she volunteers from time to time with the Animal Place farm animal sanctuary in Grass Valley as a general events volunteer and at the Sierra College Natural History Museum (SCNHM) as a general events volunteer as well. Finally, she has started to volunteer at International House Davis to teach reading classes for older, international adults needing to learn English. In summation, Jamie lives by the words sung by Gene Wilder in the original Willy Wonka movie, "Want to change the world? There's nothing to it."
Finally, along with being a member of staff, an educator, and a volunteer, Jamie is a creative writer and a traditional (non-digital) artist. When she has the time, she enjoys writing poems, songs, and short stories. Her poetry has been published in Versification Poetry Zine, Wingless Dreamer, The Chamber Magazine, The Tiger Moth Review, Plum Tree Tavern, Poetry Pacific, Tule Review, Ink: A Literary Arts Magazine, and Sierra Journal. She has also published a micro-fiction piece in The Chamber Magazine and has had art pieces published in the Scapegoat Review and Ink: A Literary Arts Magazine. Jamie wishes to one day publish one of her short stories and a larger collection of poetry. Overall, Jamie wishes to contribute to WCC and the rest of the world wherever she can.
