Hey everyone, I'm Nicolas Hernandez, but call me Nick. Welcome to class.

This is my third year teaching at Woodland Community College, where I teach C1000, C1001, and C1003 and tutor in the Writing Center. I did my undergrad at UC Davis and earned my master's in English from Grand Canyon University. If you see me on campus, say hi. I will absolutely stop and talk.

Honest confession: I was not a reader. I got through school avoiding books with real skill. Then one mentor took my writing seriously before I did, and it clicked. Reading, writing, and speaking stopped being three assignments and became one thing: getting understood and understanding somebody else. Outside of class I play soccer, run, lift, and watch way too much Warriors basketball.

Here's what you get from me: Clear directions, real feedback, and no mystery about your grade. Here's what I want from you: Show up, hand it in, and tell me when you're stuck. Also, take the harder path this semester. Write the riskier essay. Say the thing in discussion you're not sure about yet. Come to office hours the week before it's due, not the night after. That's where the interesting version of you shows up.

You belong in this class, whether writing has always come easy or someone once told you it wasn't your thing. My job is to make you better at it.
