Michelle Dicus

My name is Michelle Dicus. I grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and after high school moved around the country trying to find a good fit as I decided what I wanted to study in college.  I eventually settled down in Tucson, AZ and fell in love with the southwest desert.  I graduated from the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!) with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry and minored in Math and Physics. Never in a million years did I image that would be my path. I originally wanted to study pharmacy but my chemistry class really spoke to me so one day after a long walk I decided to change my major and see where it led me. I did know however I wanted to be a teacher from my first day in kindergarten!

My two favorite things about teaching Chemistry are when I hear a student's perception of a concept that I would have never thought of on my own! And I love the look my students get on their faces when a concept clicks...especially when I know they have been working on it for a while. It's a really good day when I get to see that happen!

I've been an instructor at WCC since 2018 and love it here! It reminds me of home in PA.  I also taught at UC Davis and Sacramento City College since getting my PhD in Physical Chemistry from UC Davis in 2010.
