Professor Tracia Barbieri has been teaching music and conducting choirs of all levels in the area for nearly three decades. She maintains a private piano lesson and voice studio, and loves teaching the music appreciation classes at Woodland Community College, which she has done since Spring 2019. She aims to unlock musical expressiveness and polish in her singers and piano students, taking hobbyist venues and finessing a professional level commitment and skill. She is passionate about teaching and about music in equal measure (pardon the pun).
Professor Barbieri also founded the adult a capella chorus, The Vocal Art Ensemble, in 2008. The group has been recognized nationally for its work, winning the 2012 American Prize for Creative Programming and Collaboration for featuring primarily a capella choral pieces along with intimate instrumentals and mesmerizing dance. They also were featured in half of the concerts at the inaugural 2014 SacSings! choral festival in Sacramento, and in each of the festivals in 2015 and 2016. The ensemble toured Ireland in 2010, England and Scotland in 2014, Pennsylvania, New York, and Toronto, Canada in 2016, and Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary in 2018. Soon they will reschedule their tour of Holland and Belgium (it was originally to take place in June 2020, now scheduled for June 2022). www.vae-choir.com
Professor Barbieri eagerly awaits the construction of new performance facilites at Woodland Community College, and hopes to bring the breadth of her performance experience to enrichen the musical opportunities for the students of WCC.
