Ian Anderson has been part of Woodland Community College’s Lake County Campus since 2016, serving as the Instructional Assistant for the Culinary Arts Program. In 2024, he also began teaching as an adjunct instructor and recently joined the Adult Education Program as a part-time Student Support Services Specialist in mid-2025.
A lifelong chef, Ian never expected to work in higher education, but quickly discovered a deep passion for helping students succeed in the food and beverage industry. He enjoys sharing his industry knowledge, guiding students toward their professional goals, and engaging with the local community through campus and culinary events that connect students with valuable resources.
Ian studied Culinary Arts at Laney College in Oakland, where he honed the skills that led to a successful career in kitchen management as a sous chef and executive chef. Since joining WCC, he has also earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, which complements his culinary background and supports his leadership roles at Lake County Campus.
Driven by a love of learning, Ian considers himself a “jack of all trades and master of none,” though his true expertise lies in the Culinary Arts. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, exploring regional farm-to-fork concepts, embracing food for medicine to support Blue Zone principles, cooking for private events, spending time with family, and diving into culinary history and philosophy.
One of his favorite quotes comes from Anthony Bourdain:
“Maybe that’s enlightenment enough—to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.”
