Hello and welcome to my faculty page! My name is Aree (rhymes with "starry") and I teach in the English department at WCC. I primarily teach our writing courses: English 1A, 1A and 1X, and 1C. In my classroom, I emphasize activity-based learning and try to foster a sense of community that allows students to learn with and from one another. If you like the idea of being able to move around the classroom to talk and exchange ideas with other students, please consider taking one of my classes. Both my on-campus and online 1A classes are zero cost, which means there is no need to purchase any books for the class.
I am a Woodland native and a graduate of Woodland High School. My first college experience was actually taking summer classes at WCC when I was a sophomore and junior! I have two Bachelors degrees from UC Davis (English and Evolutionary Anthropology) and a Masters in English Literature from Washington State University. My research interests focus on Medieval and Early Modern Literature, especially Chaucer, works from the Arthurian tradition, and Shakespeare. I also have interests in 18th century literature, specifically Jane Austen, and comic and manga studies. Before coming to WCC, I taught composition/writing at Washington State University and the UC Davis University Writing Program, and communication and culture classes at the UC Davis Center for International Education. I am also a former TRIO McNair scholar and Talent Search advisor.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling.
