Sarah McQueen Cunningham has worked as an adjunct and full-time professor at many community colleges. At Sierra College in Rocklin, Sarah was the first Director of Vocal Studies and currently works as a music professor at Mendocino and Woodland Community Colleges. Sarah has taught a wide variety of courses including, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensembles as well as Music Theory, Voice, Ear Training, Piano, Music Appreciation, Pop Music in the US, and Music History. While at Sierra College the SC Jazz Singers, under the direction of Sarah, won the Downbeat Award for best Student Ensemble and was invited to the Next Generation Festival in Monterey, California.
Sarah graduated from CSU, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies, (the fiirst recipient of the degree) and earned a Master of Music degree in Music Education. Sarah has also been a guest conductor at Cazadero Music Camp and teaches private students. Sarah has sung with the RSVP choir as a United Nations Music Ambassador and is an adjudicator at many music festivals and guest conductor and performer. In 2014 she was awarded Faculty of the Year by the Associated Students of Sierra College. Sarah can be heard on five of the Sacramento State vocal jazz albums, the “Best of College Acapella 2007” album, and countless RSVP albums. Sarah loves hanging with her family, her pups and listening to music at the ocean.
