My name is Leslie Deniz, and I am the Professor for WCC’s AJ Program. I, like many of you, am first generation and I started my formal higher educational experience within the California Community College system. I hold an Associate of Science and Bachelor of Art Degrees as well as a Master’s in Organizational Management, all of which have been extremely helpful to me throughout my career. I am a graduate of West Point Leadership and Command College both of which are programs I attended through the Commission on Peace Officer of Standards and Training. These opportunities have been invaluable to me because they focused on leadership and futurist issues that impact the law enforcement profession.
Over the span of my 20 year law enforcement career I have worked a number of different assignments and I had a lot of fun working patrol, traffic enforcement /Investigations and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). From there I promoted up through the ranks to Chief of Police. I enjoy working with people and coming up with new innovative ideas to address issues. For example, I worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and together (with the help of grant funding!) we established a high-tech forensic lab within our agency to address area law enforcement's access to computer forensics.
I completed my instructional certificate in Police Science through U.C. Berkeley and hold a credential for California Community Colleges. My teaching experience includes Law Enforcement courses within the High School Regional Occupation Program (ROP), Commission on POST Police Academy instructor and over 12 years at Woodland Community College.
I am looking forward to meeting you soon!
